Ray Bartlett

Ray Bartlett began his freelance career at the age of 18, when he jumped a freight train for 500 miles and sold an article and photos about the experience to a newspaper. Two decades later, Ray is still wandering the globe with pen and camera in hand. He has visited 49 of the 50 United States and traveled to or lived in over 25 different countries in Asia, the Americas, and Europe. In 1999 he received an MA in Fiction from Boston University, where he taught for several years before devoting himself to writing full-time.

A staff author for Lonely Planet since 2004, Ray is often on the road in Japan, Korea, or Mexico, and has numerous publication, radio, and podcast credits, some of which appear below. In addition, he is frequently a guest on Around the World, a radio show syndicated world wide, and he has appeared on PRI's The World. He also owns and operates one of the world's finest onsen websites, www.OnsenJapan.net. He is currently filming his first 60 minute documentary, about the curious and beautiful world of Argentine Tango in Seoul.

If you are a hotel, restaurant, resort, or tourist-related business looking to maximize your exposure in this tough economy, contact Ray about how to get the word out about your location. Nothing helps draw people faster than a vivid article with nice color photos highlighting what makes you special. Contact Ray now and see what he can do for you!

When not on assignment, Ray Bartlett lives on Cape Cod, where he drinks way too much coffee and burns way too much midnight oil. Hobbies include surfing, painting, forgetting foreign languages, making and collecting ceramics, short story and songwriting, using the Linux operating system, and playing saxophone.

He is rarely more than a stone's throw from a cable modem. Email him any time at:
